The demand for anaesthetization during dental surgery shows an increasing tendency. Operations are being carried out more and more in the tranquil atmosphere afforded by sedation or anaesthetization, mainly due to the fears of doctors, triggering severe nausea and for longer or more extensive operations. Children also benefit from sedation/anaesthetization. Patients usually wake up five minutes after the end of the operation, and after a brief recovery period of half an hour to an hour, they are accompanied home.
We have been carrying out dental surgery in our practice under sedation or anaesthetization for years now together with our qualified team of anaesthetists. The use of adequate apparatus and modern medicaments together with our highly-experienced anaesthesia team ensure the high quality of our anaesthesia procedures.
We make a distinction between the following two methods:
The same tranquillity and light sleep you experience when sleeping during the night. The tranquiliser is administered through a vein. Oxygen is continually fed through the nose to the patient, who is supervised by the anaesthetist. This allows the dentist to concentrate on his/her work. The patient is tranquil, suffers no stress or pain and can be addressed after the operation, in spite of being slightly tired. This stress-free procedure significantly reduces post-operative pain. For extensive surgery, this procedure is also particularly suitable for children.
The patient sleeps and wakes up after the operation in just the same way as when under sedation. The so-called process of intubation (ensuring free airways through the use of a respiration tube) is not generally perceived by the patient. The anaesthesia team monitors pulse, blood pressure, respiration and heart function.
